Energy and Offshore

Energy and Offshore

Energy & Offshore: engineering for harsh environments.

We develop reliable mechanical and structural engineering solutions for dynamic loads, corrosion and continuous motion.

Offshore engineering requires expertise due to fluctuations in wave height, loads and limited space. We combine mechanical engineering, FEM/FEA, material knowledge and manufacturability into safe, durable structures suited for unpredictable conditions and straightforward maintenance.

Within the energy and offshore sector, there is a dynamic environment in which the cargo, the vessel and external factors are constantly in motion. These conditions result in forces, fatigue phenomena and vibrations that do not occur in standard environments. Our design process therefore focuses primarily on overall system behavior: functions, load scenarios, spatial requirements, interfaces and risk management. Based on this foundation, we develop a design that meets both theoretical and practical requirements.

Our expertise lies in predicting and controlling performance throughout the entire lifecycle. Using FEM/FEA, we carry out thorough analyses of strength, stiffness and local stresses. In addition, we apply fatigue and frequency analyses to prevent resonance and long-term damage. Aspects such as material selection, corrosion protection, weld classes and tolerances are carefully integrated from the design phase onward. In this way, we deliver a robust, production-ready solution fully aligned with the demands of the offshore sector: safe, inspectable and durable.

Marine machinery engineering: mechanical and structural engineering from concept to production-ready documentation.

From concept to detail: a design flow aligned with offshore reality.

We develop designs that carefully account for motion, dynamics and limited space. During the Concept Design phase, variants, functionality, spatial requirements, mass distribution and initial FEM analyses are explored. In the Basic Design phase, we define structural principles, layouts, interfaces and overall strength verifications. The Detail Design phase involves full development to manufacturing level, including comprehensive FEM/FEA analysis, material selection, weld classification, corrosion protection, tolerances and complete documentation such as technical drawings, bills of materials and reports.

In offshore engineering, it is about more than static strength alone; factors such as fatigue, vibrations, resonance, wear and corrosion are equally decisive for the durability of a system. Our design process therefore focuses on lifecycle performance: systems are engineered to be robust, easy to maintain and logically inspectable, with safety and manufacturability central at every stage.

We work in a multidisciplinary manner: we are responsible for the mechanical and structural design and coordinate closely with partners for hydraulics, electromechanics, monitoring and control systems. This approach helps prevent costly modifications at a later stage.

Mission equipment & heavy-duty mechanics

Design of heavy, movable structures for offshore operations such as handling equipment, lifting tools, vessel-based mechanics and winch-related subsystems. Focused on safety, reliability and extreme load scenarios, substantiated with FEM/FEA and dynamic load cases.

In-house structural design and FEM/FEA

Strength and stiffness analyses, local stress checks, joint detailing and structural optimisation. Including fatigue and frequency analyses to prevent damage, resonance and unwanted vibrations, supported by documentation suitable for audit and verification processes.

Corrosion, materials & protection

Material selection, seawater resistance, coatings and corrosion protection integrated into the design. We translate environmental conditions, inspection requirements and lifetime targets into practical design choices, weld classes and detailing solutions.

Integration & interfaces

Interface packages for structural connections, cable and piping routing, movement envelopes and mounting points. We analyse the interaction between vessel or platform, equipment and load, ensuring coherence across the total installation within the available space.

Operability, safety & monitoring requirements

Mechanical designs with clear requirements for safe operation, maintenance and inspection. Including installation and assembly provisions, load paths, access and serviceability, and boundary conditions for sensors, load monitoring and operational safety in collaboration with partners.

Retrofit, renovation & life extension

Redesign and optimisation of existing assets: strength upgrades, modernisation, replacement components, corrosion improvements and structural refinements. Ideal when installations must remain operational longer, or when usage profiles become more demanding than originally anticipated.

Clients

We work for suppliers, OEMs and contractors in the energy and offshore sectors who rely on machines that perform under dynamic conditions, corrosion exposure and strict safety requirements. Always with a strong focus on manufacturability, maintainability and verifiable engineering substantiation.
